The Eight-Step Yoga (called Astanga Yoga) has the following eight elements:
Yama five-fold duties towards others (not to
hurt others, to be truthful, celibacy, not
to steal, and not to hoard things
beyond reasonable requirement)
Niyama five-fold duties towards self (cleanliness,
contentment, perseverance, critically
study of self introspection, isvarapranidhana
intense love towards God)
Asana A stable and comfortable sitting posture
Pranayama Regulated breathing
Pratyahara Withdrawal from the worldly events
Dharana Concentration of mind usually at a
fixed point of the body
Dhyana Mind screen to become blank
Samadhi Communion with God
